GIS
Activities in 2003
In addition to special sessions planned
for the regional and annual KIDS COUNT meetings on GIS, the
following activities
are in progress or planned for 2003.
- Continued training opportunities
are available through ESRI’s virtual campus. Twenty
seats are still available and must be used by August
2003. Members of the GIS users
group can choose to take courses in advanced ArcView
skills, data availability, and GIS development and applications.
Go to: http://campus.esri.com/campus/catalog/ to view
courses
and sign up.
- A GIS resource
page and web-based map gallery will be published on the KIDS COUNT network
website. These pages
will include technical assistance documentation, archive
of kc-gis listserv posts, and a gallery of maps published
by grantees.
- Support for institutional cross-site
sharing for GIS technical assistance. This
initiative will cover travel
expenses and compensation for the supporting institution.
Projects interested in a match or hosting a grantee should
contact PRB.
- Support for ten grantees
to participate in a GIS-related conference. The recommended
conferences are the Association
of American Geographers (AAG) or the ESRI GIS Users Conference,
though other conferences may also be relevant. More information
about these opportunities and registration deadlines will
be forwarded when appropriate. Support will include registration
costs and travel expenses.
For more information about any of these activities, please
